04 Jan Strength & Conditioning: Coaching Clinic Session held by Coach Christian Vassallo from Arsenal FC @ Mqabba FC Youth Nursery
On Friday 29th December 2017 Mqabba FC coaching staff, senior team and players in the Under 15 to Under 19 categories had the opportunity to attend an intensive and very interesting interactive session on Strength and Conditioning, delivered by Coach Christian Vassallo. Mr Vassallo is a coach of Maltese descent who is currently working with the Arsenal Football Club Academy in the UK.
Coach Christian Vassallo started his football career as player with Rabat Depiro F.C. and, later on, had stints at Crewe Alexandra F.C. before moving to Chasetown F.C. He also played with the Malta National U15, U17 and U19 teams between the years 2006 and 2010. In May 2015 he was honoured with the Loughborough Employability Award from the Loughborough University, and in August 2017 he was awarded the Richard Holmes Emerging Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year, from the United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA).
Mr Christian Vassallo is highly qualified in the area of strength and conditioning. His accreditations include: Level 1 Technician: Restricted Profile from the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) (September 2012); Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) from the United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) (August 2013); First-Class Honours in BSc (Hons.) Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University (2011-2015) and MSc in Strength and Conditioning from St Mary’s University, Twickenham (2015).
In addition to his personal qualifications and achievements, Mr Vassallo has vast professional experience that commenced by undertaking a Strength and Conditioning Internship in the UK between September 2012 and September 2013. From September 2013 to July 2015 he worked as Strength and Conditioning Coach with the England and Wales Cricket Board and, from September 2013 to July 2015, as Head of Exercise and Training Prescription at Mac-Nutrition. Since August 2015 he has been coaching in strength and conditioning with the Arsenal Football Club Academy.
Undoubtedly Mr Vassallo’s professional repertoire, expertise and experience put him at the forefront in the area of Strength and Conditioning. Throughout these years he has supported and mentored different athletes, coaches, teams and educational institutions, guiding them in their physical preparation. He is keen to impart what he has personally learnt to others and strives to be a role model to those working with him. As a coach, he is passionate about understanding and enhancing all aspects of human movement and eventually applying it to physical performance. Indeed, his mission statement is to pursue excellence in professional practice and personal development!
At the end of the session Mr Christian Vassallo was presented with a small token of Mqabba FC and a commemorative photo was taken. Once again, we would like to thank Mr Christian Vassallo for this great experience! Our gratitude goes to Mr John Sciberras for helping us organise this event at Mqabba FC Youth Nursery. Last but not least, we would also like to thank Mqabba Local Council for offering the Old Hospital Premises as a venue for this session.
