Under 15 Group G
Floriana 0 Melita 0
Floriana created much more actions than Melita who only created four actions worthy of note. The Amateurs made good use of their players’ stature by thwarting the Floriana attackers with many fouls.
Melita created the first action when Mark Sammut Peresso was fouled in midfield and after the free kick by Malcolm Debattista, Nathan Muscat drove well of target from outside the area.
Two actions were then created by Floriana. Christopher Buttigieg pounced on a faulty clearance and Melita keeper Max Camilleri saved his effort from outside the area and Deacon D’Agostino served Samuel Agius with a through ball in the area and Camilleri foiled him with a timely sortie. At the other end moments later Sammut Peresso was fouled in midfield and after the free kick by Adam Borg, Kenny Mifsud headed out from inside the area.
The pressure from Floriana resumed as they mounted four actions up to the half time whistle. Craig Joyce served D’Agostino on the right flank and a defender foiled from progression with a timely tackle.Raul Formosa was fouled in midfield and the ball was cleared away after the free kick by Christopher Buttigieg. Neil Cassar was then fouled on the right edge of the area and the ball was cleared away with difficulty from Buttigieg’s free kick. Agius released Isen Dimech on the edge of the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner and Buttigieg was fouled on the right flank and after the same player’s free kick the ball was cleared away with difficulty to a throw-in.
Melita created the first action after the restart as Borg set substitute Kurt Pullicino free on the left flank and after advancing a defender cleared the ball to a corner.
Floriana regained the initiative as they mounted three actions in a row. Buttigieg served Agius with a through ball in the area and Camilleri foiled him with a timely sortie. After a Luca Accarino flag kick from the left flank Camilleri was forced to dive and save to another corner a close-range header by Joyce, the flag kick was taken by Agius and after a strong header by Accarino the ball was cleared from over the line by a defender and Formosa was then fouled outside the area and follwing the free kick by Buttigieg, Camilleri was forced to fist the ball away.
In a Melita action Muscat was fouled in his own half of the field and the ball was easily cleared away from the free kick by Debattista.
The Greens kept trying to break the deadlock. Cassar was fouled in midfield and the ball was cleared away after the free kick by Scott Farrugia, the same player was then fouled outside the area and from the same player’s free kick Camilleri turned the ball to a corner with a spectacular save.
Agius served Joyce with a through ball and Camilleri had to come out of his charge to kick the ball away to safety and in the last action before the final whistle Cassar was fouled on the left flank and after the free kick by Farrugia the ball skimmed the near post with Camilleri beaten and finished out.
