Desire to Play Football

11 Nov Desire to Play Football

Following the participation by Zebbug Rangers FC Youth Nursery Administrator Mark Camilleri in the Erasmus + Programme # The Goal, organised by the YFA in a 1 week mobility educational visit in Kilmarnock, on the 31st October the Nursery delivered a half day morning coaching and training session for Primary 1,2,3 and 4 pupils from Zebbug Primary School.
This initiative was part of a follow up project based on an event in which the group attended during the visit. Kilmarnock organises this event called ‘Desire to Play’ in collaboration with Tesco Bank for pupils across Scotland. This event was not to find the next Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but to give children the opportunity to score goals, run around and play football with their friends in a safe and fun environment. Head Coach Franco Agius together with other coaches and helpers organised fun games and small sided games. Over 240 children participated during four sessions which were divided in three classes of each year.
At the end every child was given free goodies thanks to various sponsors. The Nursery also presented the Headmistress Ms Sue Azzopardi with books to keep at the School Library and sports equipment.
It is an event that can be done by each Nursery in partnership with the local primary school. Based on our experience the Nurseries will certainly benefit from this initiative.
